In addition to the basic service of feeding the hungry through our member agencies, the Food Bank RGV also operates other programs that benefit needy Valley residents.

School Tools is a
program that provides school supplies to needy students and
classroom supplies to teachers from eligible schools.
Healthy Living is a nutrition education program funded in part by
the Texas Department of Health and Human Services. The program
includes on-site cooking classes and nutrition education curriculum.
Commodity
Supplemental Food Program (CSFP) works to improve the health of
low-income pregnant and breastfeeding women, new mothers up to one
year postpartum, infants, and children up to age six, and elderly
people at least 60 years of age by supplementing their diets with
nutritious USDA commodity foods.
Thanks to the vision
of ConAgra Foods, Inc. and America's Second Harvest, we have started
the 1st Kids Cafe in the Rio Grande Valley. Kids Cafe is a
national program designed to feed America's children.
The
product recovery program is the other main program of the Food Bank
RGV. This program is responsible for the sorting, cleaning,
inspecting, and repacking of donated salvage food. The product
recovery area utilizes the majority of volunteers.
The Food Bank of the
Rio Grande Valley, Inc. and Lopez State Jail are partners in the
Texas Second Chance Program. A program designed to help food
banks with labor and at the same time provide inmates specialized
training and warehouse skills.

The emergency food assistance program is the main program of the
Food Bank RGV. Through TEXCAP and our member agencies, we are able to
help families in need of food throughout the Valley.
