Empty Bowls is the Food Bank RGV’s largest fundraiser of the year. The event is modeled after a fundraiser created in 1990 by a Minnesota High School Art Teacher. Empty Bowls is now an international project that aims to bring artists and communities together to raise awareness and funds to fight hunger.
With the purchase of a ticket, guests can choose a hand-painted one of a kind ceramic bowl painted by local artists and volunteers. The ceramic bowl serves as a reminder that there are still many “empty bowls” in the community that need help being filled.
We have 1500 bowls prepared for this event with the help of UTRGV, STC, and the community of the Rio Grande Valley. In order to get the 1500 bowls painted and decorated we host mobile paint parties with organizations, small businesses, and other community groups.
This premier fundraiser boasts 900+ guests and food from over 40 of the best restaurants in the Rio Grande Valley. A wide variety and assortment of cuisine is available to taste. Indulge in a savory bacon slider or bite into a chocolate cream filled cupcakes– there’s something for everyone!
Our Empty Bowls event features live music and a silent auction of desired donated items from gift certificates to high valued goods. “Mystery Boxes” full of goodies, valuable restaurant vouchers and freebies are on sale as well with 200 -250 sold out of every year. Empty bowls also has a raffle with great prizes. This will be our 13th annual Empty Bowls this year, over the past 4 years we have increased attendance to nearly 1,000 guests and almost tripled our profit with the help of our committee, board members, and staff!
