Empty Bowls is the Food Bank RGV’s largest fundraiser of the year. The event is modeled after a fundraiser created in 1990 by a Minnesota High School Art Teacher. Empty Bowls is now an international project that aims to bring artists and communities together to raise awareness and funds to fight hunger in their respective communities.
With the purchase of a ticket, guests can choose a hand-painted one of a kind ceramic bowl painted by local artists and volunteers. The ceramic bowl serves as a reminder that there are still many “empty bowls” in the community that need help being filled.
We have 1500 bowls prepared for this event with the help of UTRGV, STC, and the community of the Rio Grande Valley. In order to get the 1500 bowls painted and decorated we host mobile paint parties with organizations, small businesses, and other community groups.
This premier fundraiser boasts nearly 1,0000 guests and food from over 40 of the best restaurants in the Rio Grande Valley. A wide variety and assortment of cuisine is available to taste. Indulge in a savory bacon slider or bite into a chocolate cream filled cupcakes– there’s something for everyone!
Our Empty Bowls event features live music and a silent auction of desired donated items from gift certificates to high valued goods.
2020 marks the 15th Anniversary of Empty Bowls for the Food Bank RGV. The food Bank is thankful to have the support of the community behind our event.
